Balifico, Cabernet Sauvignon di montagna per il Supertuscan di Volpaia

The first Super Tuscan wines were created in the 1970's by Chianti producers who refuse to adhere with government mandates that determine which grape varieties were required to be used in their wines, especially white grapes like Malvasia and Trebbiano. The Super Tuscan wines were also refined differently from the Chianti Classico, aged in small French barriques rather than in large Slovenian casks. Because they did not follow DOC regulations, the Super Tuscan wines were classified only to the lowest official category - "Vino da Tavola". It wasn't until 1994 that their high quality wines have been recognized by the government and created their own appellation - IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica).

Tasting notes

The Balifico has a vivid ruby color with a dark purple tinge. The nose is elegant, displaying aromas of blackberry and blueberry with hints of oak and cinnamon. This is a smooth wine with good structure and a long finish tasting of red fruit.
