The oldest Italian denomination
The first document mentioning Chianti wine dates back to 1398. In 1716 the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo III de 'Medici defines the boundaries of Chianti, the area where Chianti Classico is produced today (but not Chianti wine). Since 2007 Chianti Classico is produced up to 100% Sangiovese and with no more than 20% of other varieties allowed by the specification, none of which can exceed 20% alone.
Tasting notes
The Chianti Classico has a vivid ruby color and a strong nose of fresh red fruit with hints of cherry. This is a well-structured wine with a fruity finish.
